619 closed ski areas across New England, from rope-tow farm hills to full resorts, documented by the New England Lost Ski Areas Project. Most towns in Vermont and New Hampshire once had one. Years are read from each history page where the text makes them clear; positions are the town centre.

Years operational unknown Ahah...another one for Rhode Island! Here are the details: "I'm not sure if you know but there is an old abandoned ski area located at Neutaconkanut Hill. It is located on Plainfield Street on the Providence/Johnston Rhode Island line. I metal detect for old coins and have found a few on the slope and surrounding area.

Pine Top

Memories History Pinetop ski area in Escoheag was a classic New England T-bar ski area that opened in the middle 1960's and closed in the early 1980's. Two t-bars and two rope tows originally served this mountain, though in later years the rope tows did not show up in any guides. During the middle 1970's, it had as many as 20 instructors, so I'm sure many locals learned to ski here. Below is an early 1970's trail map, showing the various slopes and liftlines.

Ski Valley

Ski Valley USA Ski Valley Cumberland, RI Mid 1960's - Mid 1980's Ski Valley USA shared the same side of the hill as Diamond Hill. Thanks to Mark McCaughey, we now have another confirmation of this area as being separate to Diamond Hill. Originally I had thought they were one area, but this was the clincher. Anyway, the guide books for both these areas are all messed up.
