Rebirth for Tubing History Benjamin Hill was your typical small, community type ski area that operated in Shirley. It offered skiing on several short slopes and lots of rope tows and one T-bar. It opened sometime in the early 1960's and had closed around 1973. The area closed due to the energy crisis of the 1970's, and the possibility of some fires to the lifts (but we do not know for sure.) In 2007, a slope was cleared by the town for tubing, and a new pool house/snack bar that was built where the original building was but a lot smaller.
